About Jon

Big Tree Tools, LLC was started in 1996 by Jon Siegel and his wife, Patrice Martin, to sell some of the tools that Jon has invented, and to make his high quality turning tools available to turners everywhere.

Jon has been turning for over 50 years. His specialty is spindle turning for furniture and architectural applications. He is a former member of the NH Furniture Masters Association; former president of the Granite State Woodturners; and former president of the Guild of NH Woodworkers, which he helped found in 1990.

Jon has been a demonstrator at several AAW symposia and frequently demonstrates at local woodturning chapters. He is well known for his many articles on woodturning that have appeared in magazines and on the web.

Jon makes fine turned furniture and architectural components.  He has made turnings for many historic architectural restoration projects, such as posts, columns and stairways.

One of Jon's many significant projects was a walnut bench designed and built for Representatives’ Hall at the New Hampshire State House (the oldest continuously occupied state house in the US) and is used by speakers waiting their turn to speak at the podium. Article on this major project.
